Hot Water
Burma celebrates Thingyan (new year) in April, with a boisterous water festival to combat the hottest days of the year. Revellers crowd the streets to throw water at each other using high powered hoses. Teenagers discard traditional Burmese sarongs to show off in skimpy western clothes and grungy outfits. Music is a large part of the festival with rock stars and rap artists providing entertainment on stages overlooking water throwers.
