The Moustache Brothers
The Moustache Brothers are an a-nyeint pwe (traditional slapstick comedy) troupe from Mandalay who are equally famous for their hilarious routines and their links to Aung San Suu Ky and the Burmese democracy movment. First arrested in March 1996 after poking fun at the junta during an independence day celebration on 4 January at Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's house, U Par Par Lay and U Lu Zaw were both sentenced to to seven years imprisonment. Subsequently both were released, but U Par Par Lay has twice been arrested since, most recently during the failed saffron revolution in 2007.
